Really? Where did you read that? I have seen several articles comparing the scanning speed to a pat-down, but not a WTMD - they are two entirely different processes, and (for now) WBIs are not used for primary scanning.

And who said they detected explosives? You seem particularly fixated on this point for reasons that I'm sure make sense to you. May I suggest another phrase to add to the diatribe? "That green car over there isn't blue". It will elicit the same "no s**t!!" response from the majority of the public
