Trust me, I was very surprised. I started to stow my stuff very close to landing. Since no announcement had been made I started by myself thinking I missed it. To my surprise one of the crew making the final inspection told me to 'leave it, no problem'. When I wanted to leave it for takeoff as well the (new) crew where appalled that I landed that way.
I just figured 'Hey, this is South America. Probably the rules are more relaxed here!'
As far as I am aware, the rules are the same on a British registered aircraft no matter where in the world you are. The crew are all trained the same and should secure the cabin the same. It is a massive oversight or bout of laziness by the crew. VERY VERY VERY bad....
