Smarter, as others have said.

But sadly I often read online how airline security outside of America is 'worse' because it doesn't involve the same kind of experience (shoe removal, barking agents, etc)

That to me is proof how much people have bought into the TSA experience as being safer, even when it is only show and not substance.
