OP's question was about the BOS-IAD-ACC trip - there is no customs/immigration issue at IAD for this connection.

But still, a 1 hour connection can be a bit tight if the first segment is running late. And, as you pointed out, if you miss the flight to ACC, you will either wait 24 hours or get on an LH connection through FRA.
