I'll take one day and do one of the "big" tourist stops....recognizing that there's going to be crowds and it'll take me most of the day to see what I want to see.
Then, the next day, I avoid DC proper and head to one of the Virginia or Maryland suburbs....sometimes for some attraction there, oftentimes, just to see how the locals live.
There's so much out there that I'll probably be happy taking these shorter trips several times a year for the next decade or two!!
Interesting.. but I wouldn't spend an expiring $1000 voucher on a trip from Boston to DC. I am amazed at the number of times I have seen similar post from people wanting advice on where to go, without any information on where the person might be interested in going. I can understand someone asking about whether they should go to Rome or Paris, etc... but asking FT people where to go, without any information, seems a bit odd.
For the OP, do you have any ideas about where YOU might want to go, or what you might want to do once you get there. I could recommend flying to SJC and then surfing near Santa Cruz, but if you don't like surfing that wouldn't be helpful.
