The competitiveness of UX is also compromised, I suspect, by the fare structure--with few exceptions, I have found pricing flights that entail using a UX segment, that the costs go up markedly. As to the quality of the experience flying on UX segments, the inferiority of comfort and service overall are disheartening. The substitution of UX CR7s between SEA and LAX has been really discouraging. At least at LAX one may board via a jet bridge, but arriving in SEA the passengers walk through the open air (rain anyone?) for about half a block and then must schlep carryon up stairs. To use my students' second-most favorite word, it sucks.
