Our own experience at La Mar was not so great but that's a whole other story. Check out the reviews in Tripadvisor. com com for both the JW and La Mar.
Planning a trip for our anniversary in late Oct, early Nov 2010. Machu Picchu is on our bucket-list. I don't think anyone could possibly go to Peru without visiting Machu Picchu, so I'm going to assume that this is the proper place to inquire....
Plan on taking anywhere from a 4-6 day guided tour to the ruins from Lima. When they return us to Lima, we plan on staying a week at the Marriott. Is there enough to do to keep us going for a week here? We could hire a private guide a day here or there (hadn't looked into getting a car yet)...but want to know if this is feasible. I read so many reviews where people stayed a night here, or two nights there...so I'm thinking it is not used for a "destination" hotel. Am I wrong?
Also, and a bit OT, anyone recommend a good tour company for a 4-6 day guided tour to the ruins? We aren't tour people per se, but realize this is probably the only way to really learn and see the ruins. Doing it ourselves would be sad (we'd miss out on so much history) and a private tour would cost us thousands--just for the tour alone.
Airfare is a reasonable $730 per person, RT from SFO which I thought was GREAT!!!!
Thanks!!!!
