Athens is a very nice city and I would recommend it, I would do 3 days in Athens if you are going to visit all the Historical Sites (Which is a must but in your case I'd maybe wait until the kiddies were older so they could appriciate it.) but if not you could do it in 2. With the Beach you can never go wrong with any good beach
