I don't know if this was true in the past, but I can tell you for sure that it is not true now. I often help people establish their accounts if I am not busy because either the baristas are clueless or the customer doesn't speak English.
Here's how it is supposed to work:
- Connect to the wifi network labelled "AT&T."
- Then open a browser window and you will see a welcome page. Click on the words "Sign Up For Free WiFi At Starbucks" to register the card.
At this point, you could go to your email and retrieve the confirmation email sent and click on the link. If not, you have a limited number of log-ins left.
There's a guy I know who basically has his office at my neighborhood SBUX and he says that even the the
company policy of "Up to 2 Continuous Hours a Day" is never enforced. I am pretty certain that there have been days where the sum total of my uses exceeded two hours.
