It varies a lot on BA, even on the same route, where keeping a cup on the tray needed some holding yet the seat belt light was not switched on, to flights where the seat belt was on during very slight buffeting.

I suspect a lot of it is due to anticipating the weather ahead and getting feedback from reports from other pilots and how much gain they cranked up on their nose radar.
