My parents booked a return ticket from Mumbai to Auckland via Hongkong. The tickets were booked in by a travel agent in Mumbai using
www.makemytrip.com.
The flight was on 31/12/2009 from Mumbai (with Air India) to HK and from HK to AKL (with Air NZ).
Due to bad weather in India they missed the connecting flight from HK to AKL with Air NZ and were transferred in Cathay Pacific.
They have a return ticket from AKL to HK (with Air NZ) and HK to Mumbai (with AI) on 26/6/2010.
For some reason I happened to check the flight status on makemytrip and it showed Air NZ cancelled reservation.
I now need to reschedule the return tickets on 26/9/2010. If the tickets are too expensive I am looking for a refund.
Both I and the agent are trying to contact with Air NZ. When I call Air NZ locally (Auckland) they say as the passengers did not fly with Air NZ they cannot reschedule or refund and we need to go via makemy trip. The other time they replied, ‘they cannot comment anything before confirming with makemytrip’. Third time they replied we need to get in touch with Air India who issued the tickets. They are also not ready to reply on email which I can forward to makemytrip and sort it out. When I write email to AirNZ they reply to contact me on phone.
When the agent contacts Air NZ Mumbai the phone gets transferred to Delhi on answering machine.
As per the agent, makemytrip can’t do anything as the reservations are cancelled by Air NZ and they need Air NZ confirmation for refund or reschedule. As per my agent he checked with AI and AI has advised Air NZ of the flight miss within 3 hours on the day of departure. Air NZ has cancelled the reservation after 3 days of this intimation.
My problem is I am not getting refund or reschedule and it’s just 15 days away. I am worried I may lose money if it goes beyond 26th june the date of return journey commencement. I am just stranded and neither Air NZ nor makemytrip. They all are just trying to say they are not answerable.
Please advise.
