The plan was to take a taxi, not train....

If everything goes well, you'd have plenty of time in a taxi.

The problem is that this is New York and things going well cannot be guaranteed.

And - if there's some delay: in the city, in the tunnel, on the turnpike - that drive could take you 2 hrs.

I'd go with a taxi to the train - then you really should be able to make it.
