If anyone's interested, I just used this code on a UK-originating Economy ticket to California and also upgraded it using miles.
You might find some AA agents who say that you can't use the 'promotional' fare with an upgrade. This code is NOT a promotional fare, it's a discount code, which can only be used against published fares over $150. Award upgrades can be combined with any ticket designator (S674ML) that does not require a seperate certificate.
