In the Netherlands a basic policy is around €110 per month and insurers are mandated to insure everyone on this. That does not cover travel and more comprehensive coverage. My mother was thrown out of her travel insurance at 70 but could easily add global coverage to her health insurance policy. I believe she pays around €3000 a year for her (extended) health insurance including global coverage. No idea if that would be considered cheap or expensive in Oz, NZ or the UK....
