In general, I think striking is pointless, unless there is something "huge" at stake. If someone is going to go on strike over a couple of bucks an hour, don't bother. By the time you factor in the loss of income over the duration of the strike, you might not recover that loss over the course of the new collective agreement if you only settle for a few bucks.
IMHO the case of Jazz employees is a bit of an aritificial situtation due to the nature of the CPA with AC. In order to set Jazz up as an income trust, didn't AC have to agree to cover many of Jazz's variable costs (i.e. fuel, etc.)? If Jazz had the same sort of structure as most other airlines, it could easily be losing money like AC. When does the current AC/Jazz CPA expire? The next time it is renegotiated the terms could be very different; Jazz might not be as profitable.
