I agree. The prepaid rate makes any changes very difficult. You shuld be able to input your SPG number and receive Plat benefits during check in. You do run the risk of not getting a preassigned upgrade and no upgrade if the hotel is full.
The is the reverse of a Plat making reservation for multiple rooms and only one gets upgrade and the others according to each's status, and they get their SPG points.
If you had made the reservation for the two of you, then your dad would have had a better chance of upgrade for himself.
You can ask PC to place a comment in the reservation with your name and SPG plat number for the second room, and hope the hotel reads the comments.
