One question: what were the actual data items required to be stored for each individual on the National Identity Register, and how do they compare to the amount of information required by other EU member-states to get one of their ID cards?
I've heard it was to collect "more than 50 pieces of information", "47 pieces of information" and "53 pieces of information" but no-one has ever said what those pieces of information actually are. I'd be most grateful if you can.
Thanks, I'd love to be able to tell you but I actually don't know, I'm not sure I ever bothered to find out what these pieces of info were - I'll see if I can find it.
Another thing that I found a bit annoying was the need to keep the NIR updated with details of where you live etc. and a fine if you don't, which wasn't fine with me. The driving license may require you to do this but you can hand back a driving license which you could not do with and ID Card which was for life.
