I believe this figure of 50 pieces of information is probably made up from 10 fingerprints, 2 iris images, 1 facial photograph, 5 memorable questions and answers, various address fields (including multiple previous addresses in the last 5 years) and the normal kind of data you submit for a passport application. If each field is counted as a separate piece of data, it's easy to get to "50 pieces of information".
