Not necessarily true. I was on a CO flight that was going to IAH but diverted to AUS due to WX. Pax were given the option to deplane with their carryon belongings in AUS but were told that there checked luggage would be staying on the plane and going to IAH and put on the 1st available flight to there final destination.
