I think that the award redeposit fee, including for all elites, is a good idea overall. UA got rid of them recently (and DL did too? can't remember). When there's no penalty to making bookings on highly restricted inventory, of course I'm going to go book something if there's any possibility I might be interested in taking it, and cancel what I don't want later on. That restricts inventory for everyone else.
