Just look at Omni or a million blogs in the US for why people do crazy things over politics.

And I completely agree with NickB that there is a world of difference between violence against individuals and state-sponsored violence against individuals. I'm not sure if I could explain how I feel about it to someone who does not agree with it intuitively, but in my heart and mind, I personally think of state-sponsored horror as immensely worse yet than random criminal horror.
I am having to repeat myself quite a lot in this thread, so why not once more. Again, it isn't random. Tribal laws against homosexuality have been around for longer than every nation on earth. They are not new, nor are they random. And in the case of most African countries, tribal law supersedes State law on the ground. I think the whole thing about saying Iran is different because it is state-sponsored is a red herring. Plus there are at least two African countries where it is also state law of some sorts, right?
