Now, I am going to ask a pretty stupid question for which I hope I shall be forgiven, but for those who think that KLM crew are just being 'troublesome' and political, could you tell me what you believe is actually motivating their request not to fly to Iran if not fear for their personal safety? It is not as if they were going to have a day of holiday instead, and to be honest, the notion that many people would refuse to fly to Iran just because they are politically minded strikes me as pretty unlikely: most people don't care (sadly, I'd say) about international politics and extremely few would go through the trouble of avoiding one country just to 'make a point' in political terms. As for the notion that Iran is not interesting to visit, I can promise it is plainly wrong, a beautiful and interesting country (albeit, again, one of the most regressive and objectionable dictatorships on this planet). And I completely agree with NickB that there is a world of difference between violence against individuals and state-sponsored violence against individuals. I'm not sure if I could explain how I feel about it to someone who does not agree with it intuitively, but in my heart and mind, I personally think of state-sponsored horror as immensely worse yet than random criminal horror.
