I really feel that I am facing a wall of incomprehension here.
Me too. But that's the Internet.

As a gay man, I would not choose Jamaica or Malawi as a holiday destination. But you have no idea of the chilling effect that a state execution has on me, far and above the rampant, violent anti-gay stream in a number of societies. And to describe how I feel at reading someone call that playing populace politics is, well, beyond words.
Nowhere in this thread have I referred to real fear as playing populace politics. Please go re-read my comments. There are a LOT of comments in this thread against policies of the Iranian government. That is not the same thing as on the ground violence WHICH HAPPENS IN MANY COUNTRIES!!!!! I am going to assume you are intelligent enough to understand that. Like you said above, you would not go to Malawi either. That is my point. You have now acknowledged that there are countries other than Iran on your "no travel" list. I think that if KLM crew or labor groups put Iran on their no-fly list, they must add on a number of other countries to that list or they are playing politics. Or simply being hypocrites.
