Well, no... but airlines don't let you hold speculative paid bookings until the day before either, and hotels do... entirely different business model.


If I really wanted to game the system, couldn't I just hold several weeks paid bookings on basic rooms at these hotels under different names... then cancel them right before i was ready to book my FFN?

I think a few common sense rules... (like limiting speculative bookings to even 14 days, and allowing only 1 spec booking at a time) will go a long way towards stopping the perceived abuse, and make stricter rules unnecessary.
