It's always been my understanding that when you upgrade, you're getting an upgraded seat, regardless of aircraft used. It sounds like you sat in F, just not in the F seat you were expecting/hoping for. Sorry but it doesn't sound like you'd be due any compensation on this one and AA was classy in giving you the 8,000 miles when there was no obligation on their part. Better luck next time...
