Redemption value of UA miles

It used to be that two cents per mile was kind of considered a benchmark of sorts for deciding whether it was worth it to redeem miles for something or buy. Anybody have any thoughts as to whether this figure still holds up for UA? I tend to think that since MP gives out miles like candy that price point is probably lower for UA, relatively speaking. Then again, maybe the merger with CO will change the equation in one way or another.

Genesis of this question is that I have about 500,000 miles from my prior UA flying days that I can't seem to find a use for. I do need to take a one way flight on an upcoming trip to the states but it will require 25,000 miles for a $150 ticket. $.006/mile doesn't seem that great, but it is better than nothing I guess.
