No one at front desk for 25 minutes????
I arrived at a Hyatt last night, or, technically, this morning, Monday June 1.
My incoming flight was 3 hours delayed, Hertz #1 Club Gold somehow did not track my reservation properly, so I had to check in at a 20 minutle line at the rental counter. And when I arrived at the Hyatt (a suburban location - one of those 10 - 15 floor places without a lounge - but the particular one is not imporant), there was no one at the front desk (this was 1 am). Nor was there a check in kiosk.
I found a phone in the lobby and called the front desk - I heard the phone ringing at the front desk, but no one answered. I poked my head in the back office - no one there. A white board had notations that they were 25% full and I was listed as a "VIP". Didn't feel like one. I literally tried to call the number on the back of my Diamond card, but it was too late. Finally, a front desk clerk emerged out of nowhere and without any inquriy ito how long I had been waiting, checked me in. I had waited 25 minutes at the end of a trip I do with regularity that left me feeling like Ulysses.
Maybe the problem was that this was the crowning blow on a very tough night, but I think this is not acceptable for an ostensibly full service hotel. Would I be right to complain? Is there any good to come from it? I hate to flame someone who might otherwise be working hard, but this looks extraordinary to me.
