Welcome to FT! It would only make a difference if there were lots of 1K's on the waitlist who purchased W. Having a V or Q would trump the W's on the waitlist. But it certainly doesn't happen on every flight and it's probably not worth the extra $.
Plus... if this ticket is already booked you would have to pay a change fee in addition to the fare difference, making it even more expensive. I'd just keep what you've got.
Agree. YMMV, but for me, I'd stick with the ticket as currently booked and take my chances on clearing the waitlist. Often ICN-SFO opens up a bit of NC closer to the date of departure, so you may not even have to worry for much longer.
