Welcome to FT! It would only make a difference if there were lots of 1K's on the waitlist who purchased W. Having a V or Q would trump the W's on the waitlist. But it certainly doesn't happen on every flight and it's probably not worth the extra $.

Plus... if this ticket is already booked you would have to pay a change fee in addition to the fare difference, making it even more expensive. I'd just keep what you've got.
