So interesting to read, and I thought many times how many other airlines were so much better in the past.

I beg to differ with the poster who thought that Delta was unknown in Europe. Whilst not as high profile as Pan Am - Delta only had one or two flights a day from LGW - Delta had a very good name. Pan Am had an appaling name by the end and it was never brilliant before that. TWA was 3 times better.

I recall the Royal service flights with the Champagne in Y as we used to position with Delta a lot between ATL and LAX or DFW. I have to be honest I do not remember the meals being that spectacular as I never made it futher forward in those days. The crews were delightful - I can remember being told by someone in Delta Managment that they wanted their girls (I think that it tool a long while for men to be hired as FAs at Delta) to be "Farm Fresh". It amused me as I had only ever heard this expression used about new laid eggs.
