I agree with the original poster - absolutely. ConditionOne I also agree with, based on my experience in smaller hotels (say Four Points, but not the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers).

The argument used to be that guests would use the gym in the middle of the night (that's me!) and make noise (definitely NOT me). Now that the TVs have mainly come off the walls and are embedded in the machines for headphoen use, and the treadmills seldom squeak or rattle, the old arguments don't hold water. And hotels are better soundproofed and the gyms are often isolated....

So yes, we should call to task those hotels who - without good reason - don't provide 24 hours gyms.

One to note: Sheraton Downtown LA doesn't have a gym. It's hooked up with the Bally's (?) in the same mall. Okay gym, but short hours, especially on the weekends - no surprise, being in dead, downtown LA and all.

Off topic: the Hyatt brands seem to have an image of 24 hour gyms ("StayFit" branding), but there are a few that don't, like Century Plaza in LA. Hotels that have gyms that open at 8:00AM on the weekends are off my list.
