You'll find that European airlines are much more "traditional" too in their service. Isn't it amazing how a few simple "luxuries" (in US terms) can make such a difference? Snacks don't cost much and airlines should realize keeping them free attracts customers.
And remember all those ads Continental had saying they were the only airline left to offer food, and they could do this because of their in-house food services? It's been over 6 months since I've had anything edible on CO! So much for those ads!
Remember on seat pitch: this is mostly airline controlled. They decide if they want 28", 32" or 70", or whatever!
