I don't know if you fly to Asia much or beyond NRT and HKG but AA is very deficient in Asian travel. *A has SQ, ANA, UA, TG, and soon OZ.
The myriad of Oneworld rules pertaining to codeshares and mileage credit alone are frustrating and the prices of tickets are pretty uncompetitive with the other *A carriers.
I just bought a coach tkt for a flight in July on UA for $900 and I get UA status plus bonus miles. I could have flown a UA partner for $750 and I would have received status miles. I tried to book the same route on AA, EVA, CX and JAL The flights were either $1200-$2500, not available, no status mileage accrual only regular miles, mileage accrual to a certain percentage, or miles only given on part of the route.
Very frustrating indeed(especially when I have to fly 22k miles to retain platinum on AA).
