Due to the JV and alliance with NW, KL gave up almost all of its useful KL metal flights to US hubs such as MSP, DTW, etc. In addition, it is almost impossible to book KL metal to most DL connect destintions in the US where DL is offered instead. Therefore, FB holders are placed in the position that not only have they lost their FC upgrade benefit on the US domestic flight, but they also cannot book elite seats and are not eligible for op ups on the DL managed flights. Add to that the fact that on KL metal FB holders would be entitled to free alcohol, extra luggage, a discounted comfort seat, etc., then the alliance with DL has led to a significant decrease in operational and travel experience benefits for the FB cardholder.

As fewer and fewer frequent travelers qualify for elite status on FB, the lounges at Schiphol are filled with DL elite lites that have miles literally thrown at them who also are given our op ups on the KL JV TATL flights. The benefits go to the Americans and DL Skmiles holders while the KL flyers and FB cardholders foot the bill.
