Munich (9 hour layover)
1) From Chicago to Munich, it's a UA flight operated by Lufthansa. From Munich to Johannesburg, it's South African Airways. Will I have to collect my checked bags in Munich and re-check them again? I would like to go into Munich for a few hours - are there lockers at the airport where I can put my checked luggage if this is the case?
2) I'm a Red Carpet Club Member - anyone know if the one in Munich has showers?
3) What's the best way to get into Munich from the airport? How much time should I leave for customs, transportation, etc.?
Zurich (6.5 hour layover)
4) Flying Swiss Air from Johannesburg to Chicago (via Zurich) - same airline all the way through - if I'm leaving the airport to visit the city, I don't need to reclaim checked baggage, do I?
5) Red Carpet club in Zurich - showers?
Thanks again!

No need to reclaim luggage in Munich. No RCC in Munich, Senator lounge does have showers in the Schengen area, not sure if access is granted as an RCC member, or just to the business lounge.
Also in Zurich should be no need to reclaim luggage. One time I was there, RCC card did grant access to the Senator lounge w/Swiss (did not have *G card), again Senator lounge has showers, regular biz lounge does not. If you don't mind a bit of smoke check the bar out in the big Swiss lounge, even if you have a hike to the departure terminal for TATL flights.
