From Gard du Nord, buy a Metro ticket (€1.60 if bought singly) and head to the RER platforms in the basement of Gare du Nord (map here - follow the icons to the "Underground"). Here's my reasoning: Madeleine is a little further from the hotel than Tuileries, but not far and it's a direct walk from the station, plus the Place de la Madeleine is pretty. Also, the RER and Metro 14 are accessible, complete with elevators, and are also the fastest lines through Paris, so this trip shouldn't take forever like on other Metro lines.
