FO's shouldn't take it that personally ("slap in the face"? Seriously??). I was an FO just last year and this wouldn't have bothered me. As a GM, if the boarding zones went:
Zone 1: F
Zone 2: DM/PM
Zone 3: GM/FO
etc.

I wouldn't feel too bad. Higher status = more privilege. It makes sense (although breaking it out too much will slow down boarding I'd think)...
