Hotels can individually determine what room types are available for awards. Some hotels--intentionally or unintentionally--allow at least some suites and upgraded rooms into the mix. At others, you just have the basic King or Queen-Queen room available for award nights. In any case, as long as those pre-set room types are still being sold, then you can book it on an award as long as you are within the allowed advance booking window.
If the room-type does not show up as a selection when you log in, is it ever available by phone? Or is the phone award inventory the same as the online award inventory?
Just trying to figure out if the phone call would ever be worthwhile!
