Also, for clarity, though the OnAir service wasn't working on my particular flight, it is (as I understand it) GPRS on your Blackberry / iPhone, not Wifi.. though now doubt the techies among us could work out a way to use a mobile device with a laptop to connect the laptop to the internet.

As for me, I quickly opened the MacBook Pro (instant on from sleep is a big plus Macs have over PCs.. sorry, I'm a Mac!) at the gate at Shannon and downloaded emails...free wifi at that gate.
