Goodness gracious, people! I guess someone didn't learn that "When in Rome, we do as the Romans do."

I assume Metro is probably the most economical and practical way. Is there a website that shows the layout of Gare du Nord in English, or better yet if someone has a photo tutorial of how to transfer from Eurostar to the Metro?
bzcat, yes you're right - Metro/RER is the most practical and economic way to get to your hotel in the middle of the afternoon. Despite what the above poster mistakenly said, it is possible to take the Metro/RER and avoid hauling your suitcases up/down stairs.

From Gard du Nord, buy a Metro ticket (€1.60 if bought singly) and head to the RER platforms in the basement of Gare du Nord (map here - follow the icons to the "Underground"). Take any southbound RER B train (towards Robinson, Massy, or Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse) one stop to Châtelet - Les Halles. Transfer to Metro 14 towards Saint-Lazaire, and take it two stops to Madeleine.

Here's my reasoning: Madeleine is a little further from the hotel than Tuileries, but not far and it's a direct walk from the station, plus the Place de la Madeleine is pretty. Also, the RER and Metro 14 are accessible, complete with elevators, and are also the fastest lines through Paris, so this trip shouldn't take forever like on other Metro lines.

I hope you'll enjoy Paris like the locals, the Metro included. Let me know if you have other questions about public transportation in Paris.

Peace.
