I had the exact same thing happen re an early May nonstop trip from DEN-LHR. A call to the 800 number resulted in my being told that this is a known bug in the updated webpage. The reservation agent's computer had the fare I was looking for, and my SWUs got me upgraded after a few days on the waitlist.
Agreed - just had this happen to me today. CANNOT (simply CANNOT) force dot bomb to book into W or better for one of the legs. Call to UA.com support - no worries. Knew all about it, built ticket by hand for me. CRAZY!!
