I have to agree that current prices do not justify the cost/mile. AAirpass is fine for short hops like ORD-LGA. It becomes riduclously un-economical on long hauls such as HNL-ORD in F--where One Way AAirpass costs are $3183, compared to $2100 if you just walk-up.
I have a lifetime AAirpass (not sold any more) which was fairly reasonable when I bought it 8 years ago. They quit selling lifetime's in '95.
AAirpass is charging our accounts extra miles for the $2.50 security charges, now. In my case, they have not done their math correctly and I've protested. Incidentally, UA has a competing program called Pass Plus--with pretty much the exact same prices. UA did not charge the security fees like AA has done. I may renew plans for my wife and kids, to fly the short-hauls, but it will be PassPlus, not AAirpass
