I did YYZ-BDL-YYZ a couple of months ago - out on a BEH, back in a DH8, IIRC.

Seated in row 2 of the BEH, I enjoyed the pilots-eye view and the novelty of it all. As others have said, just visit the washroom before you board and you'll be fine

To the OP - it seemed perfectly safe to me And if, like me, you've not been in such a small aircraft before, I'd say just enjoy the experience and the views - especially if you're then connecting to a PVG flight (which seems from one extreme to the other!).
