SchenGen, not Schenzen. And it's not just a case of "It's best" - Schengen visas are the only visas that are now issued for short-term visitors.
Am not aware of the special provisions for spouses of EU nationals, but I guess its not worth the USD 50-60 u shd be paying for a Schenzen visa..
The special provisions are that it's much easier to get into Schengen if you are married to a European Union national because EU nationals have a right of free movement which includes their immediate family. As the wife of an EU national the OP's wife is entitled to enter other EU countries as a matter of right, not as a matter of privilege.
(The EU movement provisions do NOT apply in the country of which the family member is a citizen - so the OP's wife does not have a right to enter the UK, but she does have a right to enter all other EU countries. Sounds absurd but it actually makes sense if you read up on the reasons for this)
