No, Bart, it does not depend the prohibited item. The TSO has no discretion as to whether the item will be returned or not. The reason for that is because only police (and CPB, who are also LEOs) are vested with that legal authority.

Your answer was misleading and, based on your posts here, deliberately so.

In another thread, you asked why so many people on FT despise TSA, generally, and a number of TSOs who post here specifically. Now you know why.

There are a number of "good guys" from TSA who post here -- they're courteous, and maintain a professional, civil, even friendly, tone in their conversations. You and a number of others, on the other hand, revel in the gratuitous insult, the smarmy insult and the snarky remark. Just like many of your TSO colleagues WE encounter out in the field and complain about here on FT. Take it to heart: do you want to know why so many of us despise TSA? You're a primary reason.

No, you implied that TSOs have discretion about what will be returned and what will not. And you're wrong. YOU have no discretion whatsoever.

This is about accuracy and honesty, not fairness. If YOU wanted to be fair (which I neither expect nor request), YOU would admit that our tussles are always over your misstatements, either directly or by implication, of law. As I've told you many times, you're not a lawyer, and your knowledge of law is, to put it charitably, thin. The only briefs, sloppy or otherwise, with which you're familiar are those you put on one leg at a time.
+1 and thank you.
