If it is noticed then I am not reimbursed for anything that is considered an "unnecessary" or "extra" expense and I eat the cost. Considering I can have up to three rentals a week in three different cities, these extra dollars needed to bring the gas level of a rental that is not actually full up to full adds up quickly over time.
So when I pull off that lot and the fuel gauge takes a dive a few miles down the road, what if anything can I do about it?
This happens with every rental company, so hopefully your company sees that it is not just you trying to cost the company extra, and that it happens to everyone!
As for what you can do about it
Nothing, unless it's below full, which if it is, and it's not noted on the paperwork, get them to mark the tank as 7/8 full or whatever before you leave the lot.
Having a "not quite full tank" is another joy of renting cars
