Unfortunately, under US law, people really don't have any right to access information stored about them by private companies, unless there is a right created for a specific situation by some law (for example, a credit reporting agency). Most information a government entity keeps about you is available upon request through the Freedom Of Information Act.

In Europe, I think things are quite different. For example, my understanding is that in the UK, people specifically have the right to find out what information private companies are storing about them and what it says.
