I checked, and with the AAA discount, Los Angeles to DEN can be done for about $400/wk, without RQ DRIVE, especially if you pick up from a neighborhood store. LAX and the LAX airport HLEs participate in RQ DRIVE, at $600/wk, but the other neighborhood stores do not. They're still cheaper, though.

Yes, Avis does one-way rentals, ex FL driveout and the wide assortment of cars in NY with Avis stickers and out of state plates, but frequently not for a competitive price.
