I flew into LP for a week, at the end of May, last year from Bangkok. I loved it. As others have said it's a very laid back town. Even visiting the night market was unstressful. I didn't really travel to any other areas in Laos. But, did sign up for a 3 day hike and homestay in the mountains. Nobody else signed up so, it was just me and the guide. One of the best things I've ever done while traveling. I think there is plenty of stuff to do in the area surrounding LP to fill up 6 days. Have yet to visit the beaches of S.E. Asia so, can't comment on those.
