I flew to HK in 1st once before and was a bit surprised all pax were basically "dumped" just short of immigration. At least now I know that that is the HK way
As for my departure, I am arriving in HK at 11am from Manila and my flight to LHR via BKK is not until 8pm so want to go into town. I will approach the 1st check-in counter at the airport and use city check-in as an alternative,

Not sure whether you arrive with bags. I assume that you will check them thru from Manilla to London and will also get your BP for LHR at manilla. If you cannot get your bags thru, you are in for trouble. TG check in is at the Charter Terminal. So you will have to clear custom at the main terminal (where all flights arrive) and go to T2 with your bags to check them.
